USC Galen Events Center

The USC Galen Events Center is the new home of the Trojan's basketball and volleyball teams. In addition, the 255,000 square foot facility with over 10,000 arena seats will be utilized for specialty events ranging from concerts to community athletic tournaments.  Working with HNTB, HLB's scope included lighting design for the public circulation and concourses, Hall of Fame, Founders Club, and donor recognition areas.  Also included was lighting for a 45,000 square foot Athletic Pavilion consisting of offices, a production suite, conference rooms, the press room, and locker rooms.  Our exterior work included the façade, plazas, and pedestrian pathways.

As seen from the surrounding freeways by Angelinos each day, the main focus of the Galen Center 's façade consists of art sculptures applied to the building corners.  Spot lights were detailed into a custom architectural housing in order to maintain as clean of an appearance as possible.  At the main lobby, five foot tall pendants mounted in a cluster at various heights create a larger chandelier effect that greets visitors and generates visual interest as one approaches the entry from the outside. Cove lighting, decorative sconces and pendants fashion an exclusive and intimate atmosphere within the specialty areas, providing a contrast to the more open and energetic feel of the concourses.
