Student Resource Center
Santa Barbara, California
HLB collaborated with Sasaki Associates on this new three-story 69,500 square foot Student Resource Building for the University of California at Santa Barbara. The intent for the building is bringing together diverse student body organizations and administrative functions, along with a focus on energy efficiency. The building focuses on a central forum and the various offices and meeting rooms are located around and overlook the forum. HLB's scope included interior and exterior areas including the children's center classrooms and multi-use rooms, lobbies, resource centers, conference rooms, library, offices, pedestrian circulation areas and roof terraces.
Key components of the energy efficient design included daylighting, natural ventilation with windows and sun shading. The project has exceeded California's Title 24 Requirements by 30 to 40% and has been awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
