California NanoSystems Institute

Los Angeles, California

Launched by means of a State of California initiative to create four institutes of science and innovation, the CNSI embodies a cross collaboration amongst UCLA and UCSB faculty from the life and physical sciences, engineering and medicine disciplines. The new 188,000 square foot CNSI state-of-the-art research facility at UCLA is home to some of the world's leading scientists and houses a 260-seat theater, core facilities including wet and dry laboratories, conference rooms, classrooms, and cleanrooms. HLB collaborated with Rafael Vinoly Architects on this $100 million facility that “creates vast opportunities for scholarly achievement and visionary research".

HLB also worked closely as lighting designers on the design team led by Venturi, Scott Brown in conjunction with Altoon & Porter on the world class UCSB California NanoSystems Institute.
