Nextel Station at the Monorail
Las Vegas, Nevada
This Nextel Station is a customer service center extraordinaire, with an injection of Las Vegas showmanship. As a monorail stop at the Convention Center, the project is intended to capture monorail passengers and high-end clientele. In order to make one's visit stand out, the design team was charged with creating an environment with flair – and flexibility.
At the VIP lounge, clients from around the world are wined and dined as they learn about the latest wireless data technology with a hands-on approach, and the deals are (hopefully) closed. Here, a bar is internally illuminated with fluorescent strips. Glowing cut-outs at the marble-top bar provide place settings for drinks. Bottles are silhouetted in casework via fluorescent strips and halogen accent lights.
In keeping with the dynamic architectural shapes, custom luminaries with long life halogen lamps were developed to provide a sculptural decorative glow in the reception area. The soffit's translucent fabric is backlit utilizing fluorescent strips and discretely mounted halogen downlights accent the reception desk.
At the center of the action, structural columns are wrapped with glass shrouds, illuminated within by efficient, long life, color LED's. Complete design and construction process occurred in 8 months … that's why they say – Nextel. Done.
