Nasher Sculpture Garden
Dallas, Texas
The Nasher Sculpture Center occupies a redeveloped one-block parking lot site in the Dallas Arts District. The exterior garden houses an extensive, evolving private collection of modern sculpture from artists such as Richard Serra, Mark Di Suvero, and Alexander Calder to name a few. Lighting flexibility, sophistication and nighttime comfort were primary goals.
Collaborating with Peter Walker & Partners, the team's approach to the lighting was based on five lighting layers: pathway lighting, integral tree lighting, hedge lighting, water feature lighting, and sculpture lighting to create a warm inviting nighttime environment. In addition, we designed a flexible garden dimming system with provisions for future capacity. Lighting control is thru portable stations within the garden. Lighting fixtures in the trees are also designed for use with a variety of lamps and wattages to accommodate future sculptures and the future growth of the garden landscaping.
