Healdsburg Hotel

Healdsburg, California

Hotel Healdsburg, located in California's Sonoma wine country, is the only full service luxury hotel in Healdsburg. The casual, modern understated architectural style of the hotel draws Healdsburg's unique heritage from the rich colors of the natural surroundings.   Throughout the site and around the pool deck, uplights illuminate brightly colored walls and silhouette landscape forms.   This perimeter illumination creates the sense of private intimate spaces and organizes the overall site.  A second layer of light reveals the form and texture of trees and larger plantings.

Our goal for lighting of public spaces, meeting rooms, and 55 guest rooms was to reinforce the tranquil setting. In the lobby, warm colors, an oversized fireplace, and soft pools of light give life and a sense of activity to a casual and comfortable lobby space. In the guest rooms, light bathes the glass tile surface of the oversized bathrooms - the interaction of light and glass creates an inviting, glowing retreat.   Throughout the project, the simple forms of the light fixtures themselves are intended to be inconspicuous within the scale and vibrancy of the architecture, while providing focal lighting for selected elements to create visual interest.

The lighting design for this project has been recognized with an IIDA Golden Gate Section Award.
