Hotel Giraffe
New York, New York

The Hotel Giraffe, a boutique hotel of sorts, with 73 guest rooms opened recently on Park Avenue South and 26th Street in New York City.  The hotel style reflects the European Moderne period of the 1920's and 30's.  The most obvious features include French doors opening onto individual flowered balconies.   The lobby is centered around a baby grand piano where music from the 20' and 30's is played in the evenings.  The decor and lighting all work in concert to transform the room back to another era.  Custom incandescent chandeliers were designed for the period setting with brushed aluminum flutes.   The room's centerpiece is a coffered wood ceiling with concealed fiber optic lighting which changes color to effect the mood throughout the day.  Table lamps and accent lighting are used throughout to add intimacy in the lobby.   The guest suites are in the same style as the lobby.  Little touches like fresh orchids and luminous milky glass sconces make every guest feel special.
