Benaroya Symphony Hall - Custom Fixture Design

Seattle, Washington

The long awaited and much anticipated home for the Seattle Symphony was a result of over ten years of careful planning and fundraising.   The $118 million Benaroya Symphony Hall is host to many of the city's premiere cultural events.   With the Grand Lobby overlooking the historic Harbor Steps, the Seattle Museum of Art, and sunsets over the bay, the spectacular stage is set for a special evening indeed.

Working closely with the designers at LMN Architects, and with acoustical consultant Dr. Cyril Harris, conceptual and aesthetic issues were balanced with technical challenges.   Materials, finishes and detailing were carefully considered with respect to acoustic and lighting characteristics.   In celebration of Seattle's rich history of glass art, several custom fixtures were created to bring warmth and scale to the lobbies and performance spaces.   The 200,000 square foot facility includes a 2,500-seat concert hall as well as a 540-seat recital hall.

Hailed by the New York Times as a “world class establishment” where “the performance spaces, properly lighted, are striking,” Benaroya Symphony Hall has proven to be a resounding success for both the Symphony and the City of Seattle.

The Symphony Hall's lighting design has been recognized with an IIDA Award of Merit.
