Sunrise Yard Dept of Transportation Facility

A unique and revolutionary architectural design, this 27,000 sqft, $26.8 M facility accommodates three distinct functions which include offices, locker rooms, and a kitchen for the resident engineers, workshops for the resident carpenters, plumbers, and electricians, and storage for vehicles and materials. Overall performance, Sunrise Yard saves roughly 65% of the energy of an equivalent building designed to ASHRAE 90.1 2001 standards. The daylighting alone delivers an almost 90% savings over standard 90.1.  The building was envisioned as a demonstration project for sustainable city buildings. Each façade exhibits different glazing and sun control characteristics based on the daylight design studies. Daylight harvesting and switching controls were designed to provide maximum energy efficiencies and occupant flexibility.
