PHOENIX PUBLIC LIBRARY TEEN CENTER

4.1.1      4.1.1          4.1.1

What better way to attract and ensure the attendance of teenagers when creating a library space for their use, then to get them directly involved in the design process?   A committee of teens were brought in to approve the lighting design fixture choices for the Phoenix Public Library Teen Center in order to help create a space that is comfortable, yet hip as well as stimulating and exciting to experience.

Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design collaborated with Will Bruder Architects in designing lighting for the new Teen Center as well as a new Auditorium.   At the Teen Center, colored fiber optics float throughout the space, and unique decorative fixtures bring focus to intimately scaled “break-out” areas.   Accent lighting highlights the bookshelves and specific points of destination.   Lighting for a stage element was designed for special “party” events.   Perhaps most interesting, the existing lighting - which was 2x4 fluorescent troffers - was kept to save costs and the lamps were equipped with gels to add a bit of unexpected color.
